Who writes House Extension Expert
A small editorial team, the sources we work from, and what we will and will not put our name to.
What the team does
The editorial team researches, writes and maintains every page on the site. The job has three parts: reading the primary rules — the General Permitted Development Order, the Building Regulations approved documents, local authority guidance — and turning them into plain English; keeping the cost figures in step with the regional cost model they are drawn from; and reviewing what people ask through the quote tool so that the pages answer the questions actually being asked, not the ones we assume.
What we are not
We are not architects, planning consultants or builders, and we do not carry out work or submit applications. That is deliberate. A site that also sells you the design has a reason to tell you the design is feasible; we do not. When a question needs a professional — a structural engineer for an opening, a planning consultant for a borderline application, your local authority for a decision — the page says so and stops there.
How a page gets published
A page is drafted from the primary sources, checked against them a second time by someone who did not write it, and only then published with its review date set. When a reader reports a problem, the report goes to the team, the page is re-checked against the source, and it is corrected if the reader was right. We would rather run a smaller site that is right than a larger one that is not.
Getting in touch
Corrections, questions about how a page was put together, and press enquiries all come through the contact form. We aim to reply within two working days.
